How to Explore the Snake River in Wyoming

Float Down the River

Want to relax on the water? Sign up for a scenic float trip. You'll travel down the river and learn all about Jackson Hole’s rich history and geology along the way. Each float trip is lead by an informative guide, and sunrise and sunset tours are available. Keep your eyes peeled for moose and osprey!

Local Tip: The Snake River is a complex river to float. A tangle of channels and logjams present difficulties, and accidents occur often. Use caution and follow your guide.

Go Whitewater Rafting

For a more thrilling adventure, guests can ride the rapids with Barker-Ewing White Water. This company offers an exciting 8-mile tour down the Snake River that will have you smiling from ear to ear! Whitewater rafting excursions are offered daily from May through September and are approximately 3 hours round trip from Jackson. It's an awesome experience for guests of all ages - just prepare to get wet!

Catch a Big One

Fishing is a popular activity on the Snake River. Jackson Hole has some of the most diverse fly fishing in the country, where native Cutthroat and Rainbow trout abound. Take a guided fishing trip and enjoy beautiful views and some of the best fly action in the West. Read our blog for details!

Take a Dip

If you need to cool off, grab your towel and jump in! Just west of Jackson Hole is an access point to the Snake River that the locals call Wilson beach. Simply follow the multi-use pathway from the Bentwood Inn, then cross the street to the new 40-acre R Park and enjoy a cold (but refreshing!) plunge in the river. There's also a slightly warmer swimming hole in R Park. Keep in mind that you can’t use inner tubes or other types of floatation devices on the river, as these items create debris and are a hazard for other park-goers.
