Rodeo has been an integral part of cowboy culture in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for over 100 years. The Jackson Hole Rodeo Company was founded by some of the valley’s original settlers and continues to delight locals and visitors to this day. Here, young cowboys and cowgirls from local ranches hone their skills in calf roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. There's also great concessions and snacks. Whether it's your first time in Jackson Hole or your twentieth, the rodeo is a must-see event! Here are some things to know before you go.

What You'll See at the Jackson Hole Rodeo

Brief History

The first rodeo grounds in Jackson Hole were established in 1911, three full years before the town was incorporated. The “Jackson’s Hole Frontier Rodeo” was held annually during the first three days of September, but it wasn’t until early Jackson settlers started organizing formal contests that the events grew into the town’s legendary rodeo. Years later, 25 acres of grounds were purchased by the town and are the same grounds used for rodeo today. The Jackson Hole Rodeo still draws large crowds and is a beloved part of the valley’s summer season.

The Show

The Jackson Hole Rodeo provides two hours of excitement for audience members of all ages. Cowboys come and show off their skills in bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing, and roping, and kids can get in on the fun with a Calf Scramble. Guests will also have access to a full concession bar stocked with beer, sodas, burgers, hot dogs, and cheesesteaks.

Schedule

The rodeo starts at 8 p.m. and is held every Wednesday and Saturday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. There are also additional rodeos on select Fridays in July and every Friday in August. It all goes down at the Teton County Fairgrounds Arena, just a short 10-minute drive from our inn.

VIP Experience Package

For those who simply can’t get enough, the Jackson Hole Rodeo offers a special Behind the Chutes package where you can experience the sport like never before. VIP's will take a tour of the back pens, see the livestock and contestants, and meet the cowboys and cowgirls as they prepare their equipment. This opportunity is limited to 10 people and is much grittier than the tame shows seen by the public - bull poop included. Be sure to dress accordingly!
