The Drive to Yellowstone National Park

The southern portion of Yellowstone National Park is just a 60-minute drive from Jackson Hole! It’s also the most geographically unique part of the park. Guests can explore the Yellowstone Caldera (also known as the Yellowstone Supervolcano), which features geothermal hot spots, hot springs, geysers, and “mud pots.” You’ll even find some amazing waterfalls in this area. We are happy to recommend great hiking trails and off-the-beaten-path driving tours before you begin your journey!

Traveling From Jackson Hole to Old Faithful

Old Faithful, located 1.5 hours north of Bentwood Inn, is the most famous geyser in the world! This spectacular attraction is well worth the drive. Every 93 minutes, Old Faithful blasts almost 8,000 gallons of boiling water into the air—a phenomenon that takes place for up to five minutes. Although it’s not the largest or tallest geyser in the park (that would be Steamboat Geyser in Norris Geyser Basin), Old Faithful has become one of the most iconic landmarks in national park history. After viewing Old Faithful, spend another hour or so strolling the boardwalk that winds around numerous hot spots and mud pots.

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is one of the park’s most breathtaking attractions, offering visitors awe-inspiring views of vibrant rock walls, thundering waterfalls, and the Yellowstone River carving its way through the canyon. Located near Canyon Village along the Grand Loop, this natural wonder is a must-see for any Yellowstone adventure. Popular viewpoints like Artist Point and Lookout Point provide incredible photo opportunities, while nearby trails lead to stunning vistas and closer views of the Upper and Lower Falls. Whether you’re staying at hotels, campgrounds, or exploring from West Yellowstone, the canyon is an essential stop on your itinerary.

If you're planning multiple visits or exploring additional national parks, consider purchasing the $80 America the Beautiful Pass, which grants unlimited access to federal recreation lands for a year.
