Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is famous for its fantastic skiing and snowboarding. But if you’re looking to experience this region’s beauty on foot, you need to take a snowshoe tour! Snowshoeing is like walking with enormous shoes. Anyone can learn, and it’s a great activity for non-skiers and families. You can traverse groomed trails, rolling hills, or rugged backcountry. Whatever you choose, we promise that snowshoeing in Jackson Hole will leave you with lasting memories! Here are some of our favorite places to explore.
The Mountain Sports School at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers guided snowshoe tours beneath the majestic Tetons. A naturalist will lead you to the user-friendly flats of Jenny Lake or the more challenging hills around Bradley and Taggart Lakes. Full-day tours include lunch, transportation, and snowshoe instruction. You can even enrich your mountain experience with a natural history interpretation, which will teach you all about local plants, animals, and geology.
Explore the tranquility of Jackson Hole’s spectacular landscape with the Hole Hiking Experience! You’ll follow animal tracks in the snow, examine different aspects of winter ecology, and enjoy the outstanding beauty of Jackson Hole as it is blanketed in white. The Hole Hiking Experience offers half-day tours, 3/4 day tours, and 2-hour tours in Grand Teton National Park and in the surrounding National Forest. Transportation, bottled water, lunch, and the use of fanny packs and binoculars are included.
If you want to go snowshoeing without a guide, grab a free pair of snowshoes from our inn and head to Grand Teton National Park to pick your route! You can stay on the groomed track to Jenny Lake or venture off into the fresh snow towards Taggart and Bradley Lakes. Be sure to stop by the Craig Thomas Visitor Center first and ask for a map and trail suggestions.
Another great place to explore is Teton Pass. Known as a backcountry skiing destination, this area also has fantastic terrain for snowshoeing. Simply park at the top and head south along the forest service road.
